  • M&M When you talk of the flavour not being better than a slow cooker are you speaking of pressure cooker or slow cooker mode?
If I decide to get the IP I was intending to mainly use it as a pressure cooker . Looking on the site you can saute on the hob first using the inner SS pot so I was intending to do that when needed .
So far I have ordered a book from a seller which I can probably use even if I don't buy the IP . I just want to get an idea if it is what I need , I don't do FB or Twitter so appreciate the posts here . Once again thanks to the OP .

I also have an IP and I love it, I also use it for rice and lots of soup, you can also cook meat from frozen which is handy if you've forgotten to defrost! I do still use my slow cooker fior stew as the ip is not quite big enough for the amount of veg and dumplings I cram in. However it's a brilliant appliance and has not been banished to the back of the cupboard, it still lives in my counter top and I've had it nearly two years now.

I have one and love it. Use the yogurt function, soup, slow cooker, pressure.

  • I bought a pressure king pro as I was sucked in by the advert - it was about £70. I haven't used it much as it didn't live up to the hype ... the steam tray that you are supposedly able to sit on the inner rim of the pan just slips into the pan. its ended up as a gadget just sat in a cupboard ... although I really should use it for soups as I love soup and now its getting cooler I can take a flask of soup for lunch.
the other thing I don't like about the pkpro is that the cooking bowl is difficult to get out of the machine when it has food in it ... plus the lid can be a bit fiddly to clean.
I use my slow cooker regularly and I have to say this is my favourite ... I regularly use a steamer for veg too.

  • I've only recently become aware that such a thing as an electric cooker exists.
I have been looking at the various models online and am very tempted by the Instant Pot, mainly because of the stainless steel bowl.
    I have some questions.
In my old pressure cooker there were three separate inserts that fitted in the pan on top of the trivet, so that the different veggies were kept apart. There doesn't seem to be anything like that in any of the electric ones. How do you keep things apart.
The more expensive model has a yogurt setting. Is this worth having? Do you need to buy the yogurt pot set to go in it? My efforts of yogurt making in the slow cooker have always been a bit hit and miss, I suspect because the temperature isn't low enough.

Is the 6lt model a decent size? There are three of us at home.

Does the time work for all the different cooking settings?

    Thanks
  • I've been obsessively looking at Instant Pot IP sites since I posted the above.
Some meals look really good. A lot of the pulled meat ones on the other hand, quite frankly,
look like cat or dog food. One woman cooked a chicken till all the meat fell off the bone then attacked it with a food mixer to 'shred' it.

I've signed up for the Facebook group, but I don't 'do' FB very well and find it frustrating to use.
My mum has used a hob top PC for many years, I do remember a lot of her stews being very watery, though tasty, she doesn't thicken them. I also remember her doing pork chops in them, which still makes me shudder to think of! (Though I have read in threads that pork is tricky to get right in PCs)

Does anyone know from past experience, if the IPs are likely to be discounted in the run up to Christmas? Amazon Prime events, black Friday, Blue Monday, whatever it is the stores do.
Or is it more likely that it will be an opportunity for them to get rid of old models they have in stock?
    Thanks

You don't need to saute your meat on the hob, there's a saute setting on the IP.
