Pressure King Pro/Instant Pot

Hi,

I've been looking at these recently as I have issues with cooking due to health. Does anyone have either of them and would you recommend or not?

I have never been a fan of slow cookers because I often found things tasted bland, so I am hoping to avoid that sort of thing. Wasn't sure if this sort of cooker was similar in that everything tastes samey.

Thanks in advance.

  • I have one and quite like it. It is basically a slow cooker and a pressure cooker all in one. I've only used the pressure cooker method so far which worked fine. And less scary then my old pressure cooker!

dead easy to use, recipes pretty good.
  • there is another thread on the old style board about these, also they have a Facebook page
  • I have an Instant Pot and I love it! I moved into a flat with a miniscule kitchen area and although there is a hob I do not have the room to use hob and other stuff at same time. Plus hob electric so would take ages to cool down to place other stuff back on it. So bought 6 ltr instant pot. Yay I can have boiled eggs again! And cooking meat that may need browning which obviously I was unable to do. And boiled potatoes. I was using my microwave to cook which although was fine was not what I wanted to do long term. And it is soo quick! Not like the old style pressure cookers, doesn't take so long to come to pressure and to lose pressure at end you just move valve. I made a stew from frozen meat in about 30 ish minutes, which in slow cooker I would leave all day. I haven't used slow cooker in IP yet, no real need as my stew tasted better than slow cooked! If you want more info do go to the FB page 'Instant Pot UK Community' and you will see much more than I can tell you.
  • First of all thanks to the OP for this thread . I'm another who isn't a fan of slow cooking - old style heresy I know - I find the flavours aren't defined as in other cooking methods .
I bumped an earlier thread a couple of days ago as I'm dithering whether to buy the IP or not .
Like the OP I have mobility problems and reading the replies here I think I've found my solution
Thanks for the replies Helebore you've clarified a number of points for me especially that I can pressure cook rather than slow cook .Hopefully I can do my stews , soups etc as I used to in my old workhorse pressure cooker now sadly far too heavy for me to handle .
    polly :).

There but for fortune go you and I.
  • Also if you can wait a while I think they may be bringing out a 3 ltr version but not sure when. Do join that facebook group if you can to get questions answered. I have made soup this week, seems fine so far! You don't have to move the pot, unlike the pressure cookers of old, if I remember but so long ago that I had one I cannot really remember!
  • Thank you for the replies. I'm still on the fence, but mainly because I don't want it to end up being just another unused gadget! I have joined the FB group, so will have a browse on there to get more of a feel for it.

I always feel odd when I say I don't like slow cooker stuff. :D I do have a slow cook function on my oven which is good and actually much better because it doesn't seem to have the blandness about it in the oven (even on slow cook).

The think I like about this sort of cooker is the speed and fact that you can use from frozen. One of my issues is forgetting to get stuff out of the freezer and then having nothing ready! Then resorting to takeaway or ready meals!
  • I use mine everyday for soups, beans cooked from dry without soaking, stews etc. Wouldn't be without it

I use mine a lot, mainly for rice - have no trouble with rice in the pot but I like the fact that it keeps warm for a while so I don't have to panic about it getting burnt/cold if everything else is ready later than expected.

To be honest, I wouldn't say the flavour of things is any better than the slow cooker, or even the convenience - but I have a Morphy Richards Sear and Stew so I can fry the onions etc on the hob then put it on low all day.
