Its worth double-checking by reading your lease. Management companies do sometimes make mistakes........

    They have this correct.

The sheepishness of my solicitor suggests a mistake has been made.

An update on this: I finally got my money back this month.

After failing to response for months, the seller's solicitor claimed to have sent two cheques, which were never received. They then contacted the management company to ask for a copy of the account. This was supplied (showing payments made monthly since I moved in, which I made, to keep the account out of arrears and keep my lease safe). They then claimed that the seller made these payments. I supplied proof to my solicitor, who then persuaded them to pay the money back to me.

No interest was received. No apology from anyone. No-one admitted to being at fault here.

I have a case going through the Legal Ombudsman regarding my solicitor, including this and several other cases of poor service I believe were received.
