Hi everyone
My son has just bought his first home and I was wondering can anyone recommend a DIY reference book for the complete novice?
I thought it would make a good present and possibly save him money in the the long run.
All I know about DIY is Harry Green from watching too much QVC.....smiles.
I know Harry compiled a book entitled "The complete DIY problem solver" but maybe this would be too advanced for my son.
I would appreciate any advice
Kind regards
Clare

Hi,
Try DIY - Know How With Show How, it's a DK publication, I got mine for £10 from The Book People. It covers just about everything.

When I was growing up, my father had the most fantastic Readers Digest DIY manual that covered everything you could ever ask for. I still have it but am afraid if I did some of the projects in it, the 118118 team would be round to my house faster than you can say D.I.S.C.O
But have a look on Amazon because Readers Digest still produce their big book of DIY that is bang up to date, (ISBN number is 0276429338 and 978-0276429330) and can be had for less than £15.
Since buying a new house a year ago, this has paid for itself 10 times over.0 -

When I moved into my first house in May, the previous owner had left an old copy of the Reader's Digest DIY Manual. This was the best thing that could have been left! My knowledge of DIY is tiny (I know how to change a fuse!) but the book has given me so much confidence to try other things. I didn't even know you could do half the things in that book!0

I vote for the Readers Digest manual along with the Collin's Book of DIY. The Collin's manual can often be picked up quite cheaply if you do some research.
I know WH Smith were selling it at a very low price last year. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Thank you everyone!
I will go to a local bookshop and find copies of those you recommend.....
I know.....I am sneaky......and naturally will order online........ much cheaper that way....smiles.
Kind regards

If you are trying to save money then why not use the online DIY book. It's also interactive, for when you get stuck!0

I second this.
It was great until I left it out in the rain, now it's not much use!0
