have you overwritten the camera memory/card these were taken on?

You might also want to check if anything is lurking on your new hard disk (which might really be your old one, formatted, you never know)
Try these on the HD before you send it off again, they can recover stuff after a reformat.

I did wonder about my memory card but I have taken more photos on the memory card since then which are still held upon my SD card, i havent filled it but it will be the later lot rather than the earlier lot if that makes sense. That looks a very useful bit of software thank you i will look in to it even for the future...mind i have no intention of doing it again i hope.
When the laptop turned on for the short term before the battery went flat i looked straight at the my pictures folder but it had none of mine just standard graphic files.. but i didnt have a good look as i tried to put it on charge. Once the battery died it now wont turn on as lead isnt charging it.
I'm going to ring the consumer rights people from the website tomorrow to see if there is anything i can do or get more information on asking for a replacement laptop instead of one thats had two major parts replaced and now has since blown my electricity twice as something is faulty.. not sure where i'll stand with this.
thanks for your great help.0 -
Try running the first bit of software on your memory card, you might still be able to get some old pics back.
Forgot your laptop wont switch on (it's a long thread/saga), but if it did, you could have run the second lot to see if any other files are left over from it's former life. They may have swapped the HD, or they may have just reinstalled windows on it, if it was the latter there is still a chance that some old data is on there, but difficult to get at if it wont switch on without a usb caddy.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
lab-dab, just keep the iron hot in the fire.
Don't get sidetracked with silly 'it'll be out of warranty soon' advice or suggestions that secondhand parts have been used. The current repair if not completed properly is covered even if the thing is a year outside its standard 12 months - as long as you don't go quiet and let things lie!!!
Repairs coming back faulty isn't uncommon with PC World's repairers. You can't do anything about what has happened - in spite of the advice being given - but you can influence what has to happen next. And they are supposed to use new parts on less-than-a-year machines (but they do definitely sometimes use refurbished parts on extended warranty repairs).
I know it is a pain, but stick with it and eventually you'll get satisfaction. Keep sending it back. Remember that they're supposed to fix the original fault inside a certain period of time, after which you are entitled to a new machine. Find out from them what that entitlement is - you have to ask, they can't offer the info over the phone.
Play the game according to their rules and you will win. It may take time, but it'll be a better/quicker result than trying to take it to court.0 -

The point I was trying to make and may not have came across very well is it is NOT and extended warranty job it's your normal rights under law.
Yes if it broke down after the year you would have to let them repair it but within a year you should get a replacement, after all you bought a brand new machine not a second hand repaired one.
OK that's my view so maybe I am not correct.
And if it had been me I would have delayed posting it and blamed it on the strikes to make sure they never had any chance of getting it back on time.0 -

While you are there, buy an external USB hard drive for backup.
One of the things I do is I have a backup folder on the hard drive and anything and everything that I would want to keep gets put in that folder, then when the total = CD or DVD I burn the whole lot to disk and label it. Then I rename it backup_old and make a new backup folder and when that one is full and burnt I delete backup_old and keep repeating. So I have two copies for a while in case something went wrong, one in backup_old and one on disk.0
