Is it worth claiming back £120?

The Nationwide charged my 4x£30 for 4 cheques that bounced.
Although it was my fault I think these charges are OTT.
These were my first charges in 12 years banking with them yet they refused to refund even some of these charges.
Is it worth taking action through the small claims courts or is it not worth the hassle?

I'd be interested in this too. As I have had 3 x £30 charges when i went less than £10 overdrawn. The cheques were for £1.50 School Dinner DS1 £1.50 School Dinner DS2 and £2 DD to charity.
I stopped using this account for a long time as it was only for bits and pieces and obviously not working. I wrote a cheque from it last week and gave someone on Wednesday. I went in on Friday morning to put extra cash in to make sure the balance was high enough to clear the cheque and was amazed when they said it had already been returned that morning. Hence I guess I will have another £30 charge.
Wondering whether to claim or just close the account. I didn't make a claim as was bogged down at the time with a sick parent and three small kids so it wasn't such a high priority and also I didn't want to tell hubbie either.
Sorry didn't mean to take over you thread. I think your answers will apply to me as it was also Nationwide. Have you tried just phoning them? I rang the Abbey because my account has been perfect for ages and I incurred 3 charges last month for the first time in years. I phoned them and said I was very disappointed they'd charged 3 x £35 to such a good customer. I was told that they have the discretion to cancel up to £50 of charges ONCE A YEAR but I persuaded him to actually cancel £90 worth. He did it there and then. It's worth phoning them before going through the hassle of making a formal case out of it.QUIT SMOKING 4/11/07 :j0
