Scaffolding. HELP?!

Somebody has erected scaffolding and started work on our roof, today in strong winds debris fell and damaged our car. Neighbour denies all knowledge of it and so dose our land lord, both think it was other party carrying out work.

We have contacted both parties immediately after the event and the neighbour was very defensive saying nothing to do with her (we know she is not being forth comming as there is serious tension) and the land lord says nothing to do with them.

Now we are miffed and thinking we will dismantle the scaffolding as we're 99% sure it's the neighbour trying to pull a fast one on the whole incident, 1- no permission 2- no ladder guard so un safe 3 broken car
What do we do, where do we stand?

Speak to the scaffolding company. They'll know who hired them.

If you think it's the neighbour then are you in a flat? It could be neither of the people you think. It could be the freeholder.

  • The person doing the work is responsible. Some roofers have their own scaffolding. They should be insured. Take pictures before it is removed. There are H+S rules regarding scaffolding. Not sure who to contact if you think its unsafe, try the council.
  • Have you taken pictures ?

You need to clarify the situation, is it flats/houses, shared roof? Who owns the roof? Who owns the houses or flats?

Take loads of photos of the damage to your car also photos of the scaffolding and let your car insurance sort it out.

Stand inside the house, never stand outside when stuff is falling off the roof.
