Switch Question - Meter Fitting

I'm looking to change supplier but have a planned install for a new smart meter with my current provider, if I cancel the contract will this then get cancelled or should I just wait (October) for them to come out and install?

If it is a planned install by either Eon/Ovo/ utilita , cancel it .
They will give problems fitting Liberty Secure god awful smart meters with a small keyboard. These meters cannot be used by other suppliers as prepayment meters.
Otherwise I would let them fit meters such as Landis Gyrs or Elster, used by BG and others

For the same reasons given by HM, my advice would be to cancel the smart meter fitting and wait until after you have switched suppliers before even thinking about having a smart meter.

Despite any claims to the contrary, you have no way of knowing for sure that the smart meter you are given will work (as a smart meter) with the new supplier. Even if you believe a smart meter will provide you with some kind of beneft, that benefit may only work for a few weeks until the switch takes place. Furthermore, although switching supplier is meant to be painless, frequent examples on this forum suggest all kinds of things can go wrong, usually related to meters and meter readings.

There is no sense in creating a headache for yourself by having the meter changed for a smart one while you are in the process of (or about to start) switching supplier.

My advice would be to cancel.

Having a meter change requires the central databases to be updated with the new meter info and that can take some time. Likewise old and new meter reading need to be reconciled.

Some suppliers are better than others and some are just incompetent so there's no knowing when it will be completed or if it will be done correctly

Trying to swap suppliers whilst the databases are in the updating phase could be a recipe for untold pain and aggro.

Stay with your present meter and go to your new supplier. You can then consider one if it's offered and after you've established that your swap and billing is working correctly.
