What is it you expect from them?
IMO I think you have been lucky to get 5000 miles which is enough to get you 2 reduced lonhaul economy flights.
I dont know what their t and c are on a 5.5 hour delay though.
I personally dont feel any compensation is due0 -
If your flight was delayed, then you are entitled to:
Meals and refreshments in relation to waiting time
Two free telephone calls, emails, telexes or faxes
Hotel accommodation and transfers (if overnight)
Reimbursement of ticket (if passenger decides not to travel)
No legal right to compensation I'm afraid xGone ... or have I?0 -
Please don't think I'm being flippant, but would you have preferred to have gone on time with a dodgy engine?
As dmg said you are not entitled to anything, 5000 miles is a nice offer though.0 -
You'd be entitled to more maybe, if their delay has caused you a financial loss. its a breach of contract after all.matched betting: £879.63

No you wouldnt. Its not a breach of contract either.
Meals and refreshments, a couple of phone calls and overnight accom as neccessary if delayed overnight. That is it
Take the 5000 miles and be greatfull.0 -
Agree with bf, why would it be a breach of contract?Gone ... or have I?0

What do Virgin's T&C's say about delays?
Personally, a 5.5 hour delay due to an engine problem does not sound a lot at all.
I think you were lucky that they either fixed it or got a replacement plane so quickly.
If I were you I'd grab the 5000 airmiles offered and think I'd got a good deal.

5000 Virgin miles will not get you far........from memory economy flights start at around 25,000 miles.illegitimi non carborundum0

You can get a miles plus money fare(essentially a reduced economy fare) for 2000 miles5000 Virgin miles will not get you far........from memory economy flights start at around 25,000 miles.
It is also interesting to see that the OP only thanked the person who essentially agreed with him/her0
