CEC bug?

I have been getting updated quotes from the CEC as I'm about to switch my supply. I found that if I enter an annual gas usage of over 85000kWh then the only results that come up are for Scottish Power. Is this by design or is it a bug? Other comparison sites show lots of other suppliers that are cheaper than SP for this usage.

85 THOUSAND kWh is a lot of gas, it is at the commercial level of usage. The UK average is 13 thousand kWh. So no wonder some sites will not quote for that level of use as it seems well out of scope for a domestic user.

The max for Domestic Tariff is 60,000 kWh; over that Commercial/Business

I know, it's a ridiculous amount but my last bill says I've used 88500 kWh in the last 12 months. It's an old draughty property and the heating system is very inefficient, but I only rent it so there's not much I can do. I've started a switch to Avro Energy so hopefully that will save a fair bit.

So you are paying over £2.5k per year just for heating etc???:eek:

To give you a choice of tariffs put 60,000 into the annual consumption.


Are you sure the readings are Actual - not a low Estimate 12 months ago and a high one now.

Yes, actually over £3.5k since I am on Eon's standard rate . I tried switching to npower last year but they made a huge mess of it and I'm only now able to try switching again. They are paying compensation though so that's something.

85000 was close enough and worked ok, I just wanted to report the possible bug really. The meter readings were actual ones that I took myself.

I've dug out the EPC I got from the landlord and the house has an energy efficiency rating of 30 which puts it in band F. The boiler is over 15 years old and has an F rating too. I see there are new laws that say any rented property has to be brought up to at least band E from April next year, so hopefully the landlord will have to do something if we're still living there then.
