One guy quoted 2,700 but this was a self employed gasman not affiliated to a large company, we didn't discuss specifics in regards to the boiler either.
What's wrong with a "self employed gasman"? Assuming he is a sole trader or sole director and he has the necessary Gas Safe registration and you do the usual checks then I can't see a problem. Most of the tradesmen I use are sole traders, that is probably how the majority trade. They do not have the high overheads of larger firms such as large offices, admin, marketing etc. so they tend to be cheaper.
If you are unclear about his quote why don't you go back and discuss it with him and agree what boiler you want. With a £2000 saving you have got a lot of room to negotiate.0 -
I don't know which part of the country you're in but it sounds much too high for anywhere but London and its well-heeled suburbs. The other guy coming in at little over half the price should be a reason to get more quotes.0
