  • Hi, i'm doing 4 hampers for family members this year (i've never done anything like this before) and have just come across this amazing thread!
Could i have the recipe for the apple cheese please.

I was hoping to put about 4 jars of different things in each hamper and so far i've got one chutney recipe - not great but i'm open to any other ideas that people may have - need some inspiration!!

I got 16 jars of 4 different sizes from Ikea and the total was about £10.
  • Ok ingredients to date for my hampers are as follows (whoops, why do I have the feeling the cost is getting a bit high?)

    1) For middle aged couple
    HM Apple cheese
Nice looking orkney oat crackers, 39p in Mr T
Packet of Stroopwaffle (nice biscuits brought back from Holland) £2
Jar of sticky toffee sauce from Lake district
.... Thought I'd buy some mini stollen from Lidl closer to the date to add to this too, and make some fudge.

    2) The diabetic neighbour
D-friendly lemon curd from lake district
    Oatcakes
Assorted D-friendly sweets, also from the lakes (any ideas where to get a pretty little jar for these?)
umm.... bit stuck there. I will probably resort to smellies.

    3) The "oops I almost forgot this person hamper" x 2
    Pkt Stroopwaffles
    Jar HM Applecheese
    pkt oatcakes
    HM fudge
    Mini Stollen

So not doing too badly so far!. Hows everyone else doing?

    I've started my hampers.
    I've made

    Lemon Marmalade
    Orange Marmalade
    Apple Chutney
    Christmas Chutney
    Blackberry Vodca
    Toffee Vodca.

But I need some advice I was hoping to do a small muslin ball of spices to make Mulled wine. But I have no idea what to put in it . Please could anyone give me ideas?
  • From memory, you can add cinnamon stick, cloves, star anise, mixed spice, orange peel - can't think of anything else other than to attach instructions to add sugar and red wine and DON'T let it boil.... Good Luck.
"A" is for Opple if yowm spaking loike a yamyam!
  • Just a quick thought, I have also seen muslin balls for bouquet garni, and bread sauce - not sure exactly what is in them though...

  • Hello

I'd like to join in please.

I have decided to do hampers for a couple of people this year, though not all with homemade goodies.

    Mum and Dad
Pizza dough - this will be made a week in advance and frozen (my dad really likes my pizza dough but doesn't fancy making it himself)
    Italian herbs - shop bought
    Tomato puree - shop bought
    Onion Chutney - to make
    Twinks hobnobs - to make
Some sort of chocolate - to make
    Bulbs in a pot

Brother, Sister-in-Law and Niece (3) (who are planing on emigrating to Australia next May)
Gift in a Jar - to make, not decided what yet?
Pot of Gold - to make chocolates
Australian Joke Book - to make with jokes found on internet
Some other things but need more ideas.

Sister in Law and Brother in Law

A movie night out hamper - now this is not homemade unfortunately

Vouchers for the Cinema - to be bought
Invitation for their two sons to come and stay with us for the night - to be made
Popcorn - to be bought (maybe made)
    chocolate - possibly make them
Bottle of wine and some beers - these will be bought
Bulbs in a pot which I planted about a week or so ago and are coming along nicely on my windowsill

    Husband

    Bathrobe - bought already
Yorkshire Tea Gift Box containg a mug, tea towel and tea bags - free with coupons
Shower gel - free sample from Pigsback
    Chocolates - to make

My kids are getting things bought, along with some homemade goodies I will put in as stocking fillers, like choccies etc.
