Mother in laws Death

My mother in law passed away a few years ago and my brother in law dealt with the probate, he sent the relevant forms and walked into the relevant banks to ensure that no debt was owed. After completion of this money was released to all parties.
A year later one of the banks have contacted us to advise that there is debt outstanding and we are now required to pay it all back in full - even thought the bank that paid out the money is now the one wanting it back.
We are unsure what help there is out there and where to go next.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  • How many years is "a few"? even if the dept is genuine it will be time barred if it is over 6 years.

How much is involved and how much did the bank pay? To get the money your BIL would probably had to sign an indemnity. Did he publish the stautory notice to possible creditors?

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
