Options
Hi there in new to this forum however I'm looking for help and guidance I recently bought a few new items of clothing from river island . I am wanting to return a pair of trousers from there and have the money back onto my credit card . However I also payed for other items via gift card . I still have the receipt are river island going to be funny and say well you paid on a gift card and basically the rest of the stuff I paid for on credit card :/ . I should of thought about it and new I wasn't 100% on these trousers and payed separately on my credit card because now o feel I have no leg to stand on .

Any help or advice on what to do please ?

Its likely that they will refund to the gift card first with any balance being returned to your credit card. Sorry, but most stores refund in this way when payment is made by gift card plus another payment method.

If its on the same receipt then it goes back onto the gift card first. To get round it return everything then buy back what you want with the giftcard.

OP it's often the case that a giftcard is refunded before a credit or debit card, however, if you speak very nicely to the manager you may be able to get them to refund the credit card first- it's not easily done because the way RI managers will see it is it's a loss of income to their store (where as money back to a gift card wont show as a loss). Stores are (or at least were when I was there) marked on their income levels with the manager taking all the rap for losses and not making the financial aims of the brand and so wont want to lose anything.
For that reason I'd suggest either picking a day where they have had many customers and a higher income (so losses wont matter as much) or a manager you think could be on your wavelength and might let this sale go. Either way it'll be a good-will gesture rather than a right, bare this in mind when asking very nicely!
