Car Hire AUG 08 - France

In August 2008 I'll need a Zafira or equivalent for 2 adults+3 children - all will need a booster seat. Am I best to book now c£400 and pay 10months early, or will the rates not vary much, and I could delay paying this upfront. Could I risk getting the child seats on arrival.

If the plane is delayed post the 5pm office hours - how do I get to my destination, ETA 16:30

when is the best time to book ahead for car hire, and anyone got discount codes for Hertz/Avis/Auto Europe - as it stands only Hertz can quote me at the moment.

Re Hertz if I go via Quidco, will I'll get cashback, and Nectar points/discount

thanks

As August is high season and the car category (MPBV) is termed in the industry as high demand you should book well in advance, some companies will reserve on a deposit basis paying balance close to pickup time eg www.fastcarhire.co.uk approx 169GBP pe week for renault modus or similar, as for late arrival all rental companies will track flights and if a little delayed will wait for passengers , boosters seats can be booked will be charged locally or you may bring your own, enjoy your trip

thankyou Eamonn, best I can find at the moment is Hertz, but they like Avis/europcar want paying on reservation, with a final fx amount on pickup, I take your point re high season, and so will aim to book pdq, and just hope it goes smoothly, though £100 for 3 child seats ouch !

Avis desk unfortunately closes at 5pm Hertz close at 7pm, and flying Ryanair I'm not convinced I'll arrive on schedule - 4.30, not only is that a bit close, but AVIS currently cannot give me a quote, but would have been good to use £25 tesco vouchers.

As it stands I've gone and done it - via Quidco £8, and using a Mastercard affiliate discount code for 10%, so c£80 better of than their original quote on Monday as for some reason the weekly/day rates came down by 10% when quoting today. I'll be checking again over the week though to see if they go down again, as you can cancel within 7 days for full refund, but can't see better than £230 for 11days for a Scenic !
