Like many on here, my collective fix is due to end on 3rd October.
When should I start looking to switch? Now? Can I go through with the switch and say I want it to happen on 3rd October or will it happen as soon as they have everything lined up.
Don't want to try and switch too early.

You can start switch 42 days before end and pay no penalty .
You cannot define a date for a switch as gas and electric readings are subject to independent confirmation and independent switching .
Start pricing up now and if you find a deal start the switch .
4th October you will go on to the more expensive standard tariff .0 -
You can also switch after your present contract ends - provided you choose a supplier that is fully signed up to 17 day switching - and get price protection. It’s a gamble as you are relying on industry procedures to inform your present supplier that a transfer of supply is in progress. This ‘message, has to be received by the losing supplier no later than contract end date plus 20 days.
Alternatively, you could look at it another way. How much extra would a few weeks on a supplier’s SVT actually cost you? Most people forget that it is the cost difference that matters not the cost of the SVT.This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
