I've been reading everyones reply to this thread with great interest.

I'm trying to change the way we live at the moment, fed up of wasting money & our weekly food shop is one of our biggest expenses.

I'm really embarassed to admit this, but our weekly shopping is normally around £120, then we have one or two takeaways, plus a an occasional 4 pack of beers or bottle of wine. So about £150 a week in total  That is for 2 adults, a 3 year old & a 6year old.

I've been reading through the threads on here & have got some great ideas, i'm going to join in the storecupboard challenge & shop at Lidls instead of Sainsbury's.

The worst thing is we spend all of this money on food & I end up throwing so much away

carriel - it sounds like you would benefit on doing meal plans - work out in advance what you are going to eat, then shop accordingly. When I did this I was surprised at how little food I needed to buy (for 4 of us) - just done this for one week so far, but definitely worth doing! I always bought stuff that was on offer with no thought for when it was going to be used - and if it was fresh usually at least half of it would be surplus to requirements.

Thank you for your reply Trow, thats good advice. I think I am going to go & do a stocktake of my cupboards & freezers, see what I actually have in there & try to put together some meal plans from there.

Then I can just do a list of anything extra that I need to buy & stick to my list when I shop.

I think the hardest this is deciding what we are actually going to eat, I'm not used to cooking from scratch, so dont have alot of ideas. I'm hoping for some inspiration from my cupboards!

hi, did you get some good tips on how to cut your food money and which have you followed that worked? I need to take drastic measures but not sure that even drastic measures will save me!

lobster - go and look at the old style board - you will be well impressed with how little people spend on food, and eat healthily into the bargain!

I spend normally £30 for a week for two adults. There is no budget at all. Normally shop in the supermarket. Fish for two nights, meat for two nights, pizza for one night, spaghetti for one night and vegetable for one night....mind you we do drink wine which buy a lot from France every 4 months.
