Halfords Fitting Service

Don't know whether you would be interested in this but I have had Thule roof bars fitted by Halfords Leigh (£200 for bars and £15 fitting). On removing them after my holiday I have found 4 dents in my car roof which I believe has been caused by Halfords over tightening the bars. I made a complaint online to Halfords and had a phone call from the Leigh store manager apologising for what had happened and assured me that his company would sort it for me.

After various emails and phone calls from Halfords customer service they have now refused to accept responsibility, pay for the damage they have caused or even refund me for the bars and fitting costs.

I find this incredible that such a big company can treat loyal customers in this way, I have spent several thousands of pounds in that store on bikes, car seats, roof boxes and accessories. I will no longer give them any more of my hard earned cash.

Please could you make your readers aware of this shoddy service so as to ensure that this does not happen to anyone else.

Can you prove they did it, wouldn't it have been wiser to inspect their workmanship at the time?

You have to see it from their point of view, they don't know how many times the bars have been on and of the car now. The fact you want a refund for the bars and fitting cost might also lead them to believe that you are just looking for a refund now the holiday is over and you don't need them anymore.

How much weight did you carry on the bars and was it within the vehicle manufactures specifications?
