Learning dilema

Hi,

A friend that I made up with last year has retaken his maths GCSE and didnt get the result he was hoping for. He was aiming for a C whatever the equivalent is in numbers these days. He asked me a quite a few times to help him with his homework as I retook mine in 2014 and got an A.

Thing is I genuinely could not remember how to do so much. I have never used maths since and I retook it so I could feel proud that i'd righted a wrong from my school days and to update my CV incase I needed to find another job.

I felt that a big part of me achieving my goal was studying hard and having access to MyMaths which I used a lot. I kept telling my friend to get his tutor to give him access to this but apparently they just kept saying he didnt need it which I found so frustrating. He is going to redo his year over again and i've emphasised again the importance of Mymaths.

If they refuse to give him access again why might this be and can he get access by some other means? Ive checked the website but there doesnt seem to be an option other than for schools signing up.

Never heard of it and it may be that his tutor doesn't have a licence for it.

The fact that many many students manage to get a C grade without it probably attests to the fact that it isn't necessary. His tutor will better be able to advise him on how to get the grade he wants.

It looks pretty expensive so I can understand why the tutor might not want to buy into it. There are other resources. Your friend should be able to order study/revision guides via his local library. I expect there are also forums and YouTube vids etc. When I was studying a course in my spare-time a couple of years ago I found lots of Facebook groups and blogs by current students.
