just use the pan for the scales to mix it in , saves having to wash another dish. or if not planning on 'turning out', just make in the bowl you are gonna cook it in

I never use the pan on our scales, I just put the bowl or whatever I am mixing it in on the scales and reset it to zero.

    :)

I had never seen any recipes for sponge pudding from scratch in the microwave but then again I had never looked!

1 egg, sugar, self raising flour, butter/marg and syrup.

Ok, this is how easy it is but you may be better off using digital scales as you will be using really small amounts to make one pudding which is big enough for two people.

Take one egg without cracking it and weigh it, remember, don't break it just stick the egg on the scales and weigh it.

I used a medium egg which weighed 55 grams.

Weigh out the exact same weight in self raising flour, sugar (just normal everyday sugar) and butter.

Mix everything together including the egg (I used a cereal bowl which was more than big enough), I also melted the butter first in the microwave so that it was easier to mix with the other ingredients. I just used a fork to stir everything together.

Once mixed together it should have no lumps and looks a lot like baby food!

Get a cereal bowl (make sure it is microwave proof) and smear a bit of butter all around it so that the cake will be easier to come out (although mine still seemed to stick).

Put a dollop of golden syrup in the bottom of the cereal bowl and pour the cake mixture on top.

Cover with clingfilm and microwave on high for 3 mins.

Now that is what I read, but it did not say what the wattage was.

I cooked it for 3 mins in a 900 watter and it was fine so I think it may be a bit of trial and error if you have a different wattage.

Just cook till it puffs up and is springy to the touch.

I made up a packet of the 9p instant custard from Mr T's and it was lovely.

Not up to the standard of a bought one of course but hey, it was edible, cheap and took 3 mins.

Our 9 year old is a right fussy little eater, she tried it and said it was gorgeous so it must have been ok.

Go on guys, get in the kitchen and give it a go, I want to know how other people get on with it.

    :)

    PS

I suppose you could use jam or chocolate sauce etc in the bottom instead of syrup.

I just used this recipe again but with variations.

I melted the butter in the microwave first then mixed that with the egg.

Mixed all of the dry ingredients together but instead of using 56g of flour I used 46g and 10g Sainsburys Cocoa powder then mixed the dry into the wet ingredients and cooked it for 2½ mins instead of 3.

    It was lovely.
  • Mine took about 4mins in the microwave today, I'm in heaven.

Trouble is the other half is calling to me from the kitchen

    Thank you, sb44.
Your recipe was so easy to follow and I was in heaven yesterday.
I shan't be buying any more puddings in future.

Sorry, I forgot about this thread!

Only came back now because I haven't made this for a while and had to check the recipe.

    Glad that you like it.

    Off to make one now.

Has anyone else made this yet?

I am going to make another tomorrow as I had forgotten all about the recipe.

It is so easy and cheap especially if you buy some Tesco Value custard mix.

I just found this recipe by searching google for microwavable sponge recipes. Anyway i made it this evening and it was delicious, i can see myself making this a lot from now on. If you haven't tried it i recommend you do, it was so quick and easy to make and it tastes really good! I used jam in mine as i had run out of syrup and it was lovely, i think i'll try the syrup next time.

I'm glad that you tried it and reminded me about it as I had totally forgotten all about this recipe! Mind you, I did get 45 Bakin Boys cakes from Approved Food recently so that could be one reason.

I had forgotten all about this recipe, I think I will give it a go tomorrow as it's half term.

Now where did I put that custard powder.

    ;)
