Have a look around, all depends if you fall into the criteria to be accepted for a card with a limit you need.

The cards & Loans along the top of the screen might a place to start.

Theres a whole page on cashback cards on mse site, just google cashback credit cards.

If you're applying for a mortgage it is strongly recommended not to apply for any credit until after completion.
  • If you want Avios, consider the American Express Preferred Rewards Gold. You get a signup bonus of 20,000 provide you put £2K through in the first 3 months and a point for every £1 spent. You get a couple of lounge passes to use each year. No fee for the first year - so just have it for a year.

Of course not everywhere takes Amex, but when I last looked, it was the best way to get Avios without paying a fee.

If you are interested, I think I can introduce you and then you get more than 20,000 and I get something too. (Can't remember the detail, and I'm by no means pushing you.)

Amex is definitely the best way to get Avios.

  • To advise on the best card it might be useful to say how you intend to use it. Do you intend to buy items and then pay the card off in full every month or spread repayments over several months/years?

If the former, maximise the perks, if the latter then a long 0% purchases card would probably be more important than perks.

Obviously a card with both features would be the ideal.
  • Thanks... to clarify - it is not for the credit really, it is just to take advantage of the fact that there will have to be some abnormal expenses over a relatively short period, so want to get the most cashback/ points etc

Will be paying back the balance promptly.
  • Just wondering whether it might be better to borrow a bit more on your mortgage if its for home stuff.....but thats just me....

    all the best.
