Smart meters. SSE

  • I have been with SSE for a few years now. I have asked for smart meters, gas and electric, on THREE occasions now. Twice at my previous address and now at my new home. No one has bothered to turn up on ANY of the appointed dates. Oh, they are very good at sending out the text messages reminding ME not to FORGET the appointment date.Unfortunately they do not seem to share the same memory banks as I do. (Luckily I am retired and do not need to take time off work). To add salt to the wounds, not once have I received any explanation as to why nobody turned up, either by phone, email or text.Funny that, They are good at promoting, crap at doing.I could complain , but I have to spend on the phone call (0345 number) to complain about what should be a FREE SERVICE!
I wonder if SSE get paid by someone for "fitting" these meters, ie HM Gov. After all, who is there to check any metering apart form the supplier and the customer. Won`t be bothering to ask for smart meters again, not whilst I`m still with SSE anyway.

The supplier needs to replace the meter, be it smart or dumb.
It is in your terms and conditions that you accept this
You have to comply with this or you may face the possibility of disconnection with a meter which has gone past its sell by date

I'm fairly sure they are only interested in me having a smart meter. Rather than the calibration has expired on the old one.

At end-of-life, suppliers are permitted to fit a smart meter with the comms hub disabled. It is then nothing more than a dumb meter that may, or may not be, difficult to read.
