  • Mummyraver..... I'm so sorry to read your post. I am in exactly the same boat. Just home from seeing consultants which necessitated a few nights away from home.

Got home to a letter saying my little girl's DLA renewal has been turned down.....

She has ADD, ADHD, Dyspraxia, Sensory Processing Disorder and anxiety. Also Bi-lateral Femoral Ante-version.

I'm at a loss as to how the DWP can decide after 2 years that all of a sudden my 6 year old daughter requires no more care than the average 6 year old......!!

I'm insensed and wish the idiot respo able for this would come and live with us for 4 weeks. They wouldn't cope with 4 hours......!!

My daughter is home educated because she couldn't cope with school. She doesn't sleep even with her melatonin and has me up anything up to 6 or 8 times a night screaming in terror at tho vs she can see in her bedroom. We are exhausted every morning. A normal school/work routine would be virtually impossible...

I am.beside myself at the moment. The loss.of her money which is needed to enable her to access social groups, transport etc will be an enormous blow to her...... :(

Appeal it. Start with an MR:

    https://www.advicenow.org.uk/dla-tool

Expect the DWP not to change their decision - then take it to tribunal.

Ask the consultants for letters confirming your daughter's conditions and that she requires more care than other children of her age.
Keep a diary of her care and developmental needs.

It was some time ago, but exactly the same thing happened to me with my son when claiming DLA. The school SENCO (horrible man, sorry but he was the last person in the school who should have been SENCO) wrote a quick letter saying that my son was dependable, left in charge of other children as a monitor and had no problems in school.

I wrote back saying if he had no problems why was he receiving one to one help, my son's attendance low with periods of school refusal. Yes he was made a monitor but marching around the playground did not mean he was left in charge of children and this wouldn't be done in primary school whether he had ASD or not.

Next thing I knew he was awarded DLA. But I suspect I was very lucky and this was years ago before there was MR etc.

It is so difficult when you are in the situation to write these forms in the way you need to to maximise you chances of success. You are overwhelmed, sleepless and under such strain.

Get some help from the CAB with the form. Contact the National Autistic Society, they have a parentline, might offer some support http://www.autism.org.uk/services/helplines/main/contact.aspx
    http://www.autism.org.uk/services/helplines/parent-to-parent.aspx
There might be a local branch somewhere near you
    https://www.autism.org.uk/services/local/about.aspx

I had a lot of help from an autistic charity - there is a page on the NAS website where you can search for these but I can't find it right now.

I hope you get the help you need and deserve. Sending hugs x x x
