Help ! Hire car company gives unsafe vehicle

Hi
I am new so please help !

We hired a car from a company and when it was provided they provided us tyres that were unsafe.
We didn't realise this until we were driving on the motorway and the car swayed left to right.
We immediately called the company to get this resolved . This was around 5pm on Friday, they didn't get a car to us till 11:30pm.

When we pulled over to our destination we realised both rear tyres were bald, I mean illegal bald ! They had no tread left on them !

Once we had given the keys back I complained and wanted compensation. They are digging in their heals ! Is there any way I can claim under Section 75 as I paid some of this by Credit card?

Any help would be greatful !

Thanks

  • Was it raining?
  • Surely you did an inspection of the vehicle before you singed anything?!

I would push for a days rental to be refunded. You could complaint to the local police force, but they have bigger fish to fry.

    Name and shame the company.

Surely the first rule of car hire is to check the vehicle against the check sheet given e.g. Condition of car, scratches, wear and tear etc...

    Bald tyres are quite obvious...

Ok, so you missed this. What are your financial losses in this case that you wish to claim?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

If 'they got a car to you by 11.30pm' (by which I assume you mean a replacement car), then why did you drive the original one with the bald tyres onwards to your destination?
Or were both cars running on bald tyres?
Subject to clarification on that, I'd say that being stuck on a hard shoulder for 6.5 hours does give you a valid claim for some compo. How much did you ask for> Just saying 'I demand compo' is not likely to get you a positive response.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
