APCOA PCN at Luton Mid Term Car Park

Hi everyone, I have read the newbies thread and to my shame I can't seem make sense of it so I am posting here (and my sincere apologies for being dense!).
Luton say that you can drop off for free at their mid-term car park, and when we turned into that area it seemed to make more sense to stop outside it rather than drive all the way up into the actual car park (I figured walking to the terminal would be quicker than their shuttle bus) so we pulled into a side road just off the main road where there were double yellow lines but no signage and stopped the car for 2 mins to let me and my bag out, then my partner drove off again. We have now been hit with a letter from APCOA wanting £80.
Please can someone direct me to the specific template I need to use. Many thanks!

This forum is riddled with APCOA threads, so I suggest you search and read.
From memory, they don't grant appeals themselves.
POPLA are still not sure whether or not they can deal with land under bylaws.
I do not believe that APCOA are willing to test their claims against registered keepers in court.
But do not admit who was driving and appeal as Keeper.
I have to say that if a PPC gives you a free pass to stop in 2 car parks on site and you choose not to for whatever reason, then you are asking for it.
Out of interest, there are 45 threads on this form that have replies or were started today. There is a limit to the number of replies that regulars can handle and there is a current groundswell with some, including me, when the same old topics keep appearing. Currently 4 APCOA active threads today, for example.
Please do some research and give us a chance!!0 -

And there in lies a story we hear on this forum every day, "I make up my own rules and can't understand why I now have all this work to do!"
The forum will guide you through this the airport is governed by bye-laws and a PPC will not test these in court with their silly made up T&C's0 -
Thanks guys for taking time out of your day to berate me for my idiocy, despite being too busy to have the time to offer advice. I sincerely hope you never make a silly mistake for the first time in a situation that you are not familiar with, but if you do, I suggest you refrain from seeking advice and certainly total honesty just in case there are people ready to shoot you down.
As it happens, I have already searched the forums and all I found was a bunch of acronyms and situations that don't seem to pertain to mine. I have no idea if APCOA is any of a PPC or an IPC or AOS or any of the other acronyms, though I'm guessing they are a PPC from your message above.
I will just have to hazard a guess on which template to use and hope I've chosen correctly.0 -

Well you must be too busy to read the Newbies Start Here thread where everything including acronyms are explained (post 9) all regulars on here are volunteers and yes are busy so respectfully answering the same old same old from people that are too lazy to do a bit of reading is tedious.
Driving and making up your own rules including stopping in prohibited areas where you knew were in the wrong is hardly a silly mistake it's plain asking for it!
No matter, we are here to help but get touchy sorry about that, but if this upsets you there are far more insults to come from PPC's, debt collectors and the like.
Though if you do get round to doing some simple research you might find it's all fairly harmless if you know how to attack it, but no one is likely to do it all for you.
I'll leave you to find out the rest as you seem to want to bite the hand that might feed you!0 -
I did read the Newbies thread (as well as search the forums), but as mentioned I found it completely baffling - whether that is the way it is written, or whether it is me being dim, is besides the point - the point is that I really did try researching before adding a new post, and I didn't think I was being lazy and I did even apologise from the outset for my lack of understanding.
I really didn't actually know we were in the wrong - there weren't any signs (not even tiny ones) to say it was prohibited, it's just got double yellows - and it was a spur of the moment hasty decision. Taking the p out of someone, regardless of whether their crime is due to recklessness or naivete, isn't constructive to any end.
In future why not just ignore posts that you think are stupid, or take some time out from the forum, rather than spending precious time belittling people.0 -
I am inclined to agree with OP. Apcao's "rules" appear to be there for the benefit of Apcoa, not the passenger.
There are already enough petty tyrants at airports, security, (making an old codger kike me take my shoes off), Ryanair charging you an arm and a leg if your carry on baggage is s centimeter over their allowance, making you pay £2 a litre for overpriced mineral water.
It is time the travelling public fought backYou never know how far you can go until you go too far.0 -

Look, I was not taking the P sorry that you were offended, but you stated quite clearly you stopped on double yellow lines, and presumably thought you would get away with it, at an airport it's asking for trouble!
TD is quite correct and I do sympathise with you, these are scammers of the worst kind they are only after scamming you out of cash.
There is another thread on here about these posts coming up time and time again and this particular airport along with Liverpool are amongst the worst.
APCOA are a Private Parking Company trying to enforce parking restrictions on land that is covered by bye-laws in effect they cannot but will bluff and bluster with a mish mash of nonsense pretending they can.
APCOA cannot take you to court over this only the airport police or management can and they never do, after six months this times out too.
Have a look at these recent threads:

Probably neither, but it is complicated. Even with my towering IQ it took me a couple of hours to get the hang of it.You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0 -

Modest as ever TD!
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.
