Lawn drainage to which rainwater drains?

If anyone can advise me here it'd be much appreciated. I plan do install some land drains in the back lawn and wonder if I can connect these via a T piece to the rainwater drain from the roof gutter of the house? Or an open surface rainwater drain? The roof one is in a better location.

Thanks.

The answer is probably that Scottish Water would say no to either option... if you were to ask them! ;)

Does the guttering drain to a soakaway in your garden or into the sewers ?

Sewers I guess. Where do I connect garden drains to if not there?

I have a friend who installed lands drains ran them to a small soakaway, but that overflows to the same drain as the house gutters. Probably illegal under SUDS laws

I think you are meant to cope with it all on-site. Big difference, though, between theory and practice.

Running land soakaway into a surface water drain via a permanent connection is only likely to lead to blocked pipes somewhere along the line, if you need to run it anywhere then do it into a gully trap that will at least hold silt in the U bend and can be easily cleaned.
