Allied Dunbar Income Protection
pelops
I took out an Endowment mortgage in 1994 and was sold an Income Protection Plan at the same time, which I didn't want. The salesman at the time said I had to have it otherwise my application would not be accepted. At the time it was a fair bit of money £15 pm.
I continued paying this for a few years until cancelling when it had risen to just over £19 pm.
Was this PPI and can I reclaim the money I paid?
I have found the original application form with policy number but can't remember how long I continued payments. Would I need to know this and provide evidence and is a claim possible for this policy?
Many thanks

Income Protection is not PPI.
You could still complain it was mis-sold (if you had valid reasons to do so) but you'd likely be time barred anyway since you cancelled the policy almost two decades ago.0 -
Allied Dunbar never retailed PPI. The only income protection they did was a permanent health insurance (PHI).Was this PPI and can I reclaim the money I paid?
Anything can be missold but your complaint reason is extremely weak. You almost certainly have no evidence to support your allegation. Plus, you can be timebarred from complaint (you have 6 years from the application or three years from being reasonably aware of an issue to raise a complaint. The 3 year clock started ticking when you cancelled the policy).Would I need to know this and provide evidence and is a claim possible for this policy?
Lack of evidence supporting the allegation is a problem. You lack credibility and will not be believed without evidence. You are talking about a verbal conversation that took place 23 years ago.
its not PPI. So, no product failing (PHI is a highly regarded product and suffers none of the PPI issues. Everyone should have PHI and that makes it impossible to say you didnt need it and as its underwritten at point of sale, you cannot say you were not eligible.).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Thanks for the information. I won't be making a claim. It was only because of PPI being in the news that it crossed my mind and I wondered if it was the same.
