Puncture repair costs 2017

Just to update the earlier threads, I've just had a repair done to a tyre which was attacked by a small screw - the problem picked up, very usefully, by the Tyre Pressure Monitor.

£20 - which is probably the going rate for a reputable tyre company. About 20 minutes work in total.

Seems reasonable enough to me - is anyone still doing these for free, as Kwikfit once did?

I got a local guy does a puncture / reseal for £10. My tyres on some cars are £40 so once they are a bit older £20 hardly seems worth it ?

Fair point - mine cost £100+ each, though, and the damaged one hasn't done a great mileage, so £20 made sense.

When I get a punchure it costs me nothing because I take it to the company that supplied the tyres and they do it FOC

The last puncture I got repaired was in Cyprus. 7 Euro.

I recently took a tyre with what appeared to be a slow puncture to my local tyre place. The valve was faulty. They replaced it free of charge.

Any puncture I've encountered has been fixable using the above kit. I got a screw in a tyre 2 weeks (~300 miles) after getting a new car (TPM also was how I found out quickly) and I fixed it using the above kit ... the tyre came off the car 44k miles later and never lost pressure. (Well, no more so than any other tyre).

Thanks - an interesting option. Wouldn't be legal in the UK, though, and would invalidate your insurance.

Still got a choice of local, skilled and very professional operators who will fix a puncture for £10-12. As well as taking care of all other aspects of tyre/brake issues, often at prices far better than the big names.

In fact the one I use most often - over many years, car and bike has only once been beaten by a major's special offer and I'd trust his skills over any big name. :)

I thought the same thing but I'm struggling to find a reliable source that says it isn't.

Source please or I'll class this as an old wife's tale ... I have never heard of this being illegal at all.

As long as the repair is done properly and is applied to the relevant portion of the tyre (within the tread width) then it's fine.
