Need WD my passport cable.

Hi,

I bought a WD my passport usb 3.0 cable on ebay, and the transfer rate to my computer is just over 31MB/second, the old cable that I got on ebay a few years ago was at least 20MB faster than this, both cables 1 m in length but old one was a lot thicker.

Anyone bought one of these cables recently on ebay and managed to get a good one with a good transfer rate?

Thanks for any info.

It could be the ebay cable is not fully wired or slgihtly faulty and only working at USB2 speeds (going by the 31mb/s transfer), assuming you've not accidentally plugged it into a usb 2 port (I've done that many times when tired).

Ebay cables can be a completely random thing as unless you've used the seller before and had good results you've got no way of knowing if they normally sell quality cables (some ebay cables are terrible quality).

If you've got a poundland near you it might be worth popping in, I stocked up on Belkin USB3 cables when my local one had a bunch in (I think the packaging had just changed so they'd bought up stock in the previous packaging style).

    Hey Nilrem,

Great post which has jogged my memory that I had stocked up on some cables form poundland a few years ago.

Had then out in shed, just went to check and lo and behold there is a Belkin Micro B cable there, that fits just fine. Speed is back to normal now.

The ebay seller said I can return the other £2.50 cable, but whats the point of doing so, cost of postage and unless its tracked, no proof of return, so just will keep it as backup even at slower speeds.

Thanks again and Andy as well for your reply.

Open an eBay dispute - not as described and they have to pay. Chances are you'll just get the refund.
