Cooking smells from next door

My house is a terrace, and has back to back kitchen chimneys with next door up which fumes from cooking etc are extracted. Since some renovation work i've noticed next doors cooking smells entering my kitchen which suggests the sealed vents aren't working properly and the 'wall' between the houses has a hole in it. Both houses have extractor fans above the electric hobs but it seems these are blowing smells out through each others kitchens rather than up the chimney.
What should I do ?
