Lay-by's

I've found the answer to the confusion of the 'missing' links.
If you put 'Layby Orwell Bridge' into Google Gloomendoom's link comes up second and MSE comes up fifth (at the time of my posting). If you do the same on Yahoo! MSE is first and Gloomendoom's is nowhere. I haven't tried any other search engines.0 -
By adding in quotation marks, google looks for that specific phrase. The appropriate result comes up if you google layby orwell bridge (ie without the quotation marks).Gloomendoom wrote: »I just Googled "layby orwell bridge" and got the answer on the first hit.0 -
Not really. Suicide is not an easy thing to do, and you don't generally have to put very high barriers in people's way in order to stop them doing it.It sounds stupid to me. Closing laybys will not reduce the risk of suicide, probably just cause them to stop their car on the bridge resuling in more traffic disruption
Similarly reducing the pack sizes of over the counter paracetamol has significantly reduced the number of paracetamol-related suicides, in spite of all the pub bores who objected because "people will just buy more packs".0 -

This is silly and does'nt work - when I have wanted several packs I simply went to the self service till in my supermarket and did several separate purchases.0 -
Statistics can be used to prove almost anything.Similarly reducing the pack sizes of over the counter paracetamol has significantly reduced the number of paracetamol-related suicides, in spite of all the pub bores who objected because "people will just buy more packs".
Just because paracetamol related suicides have dropped doesn't mean that this drop was to do with the reduced pack sizes available to buy.
If you check the historical statistics for suicide in the UK:
https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/deaths/bulletins/suicidesintheunitedkingdom/2014registrations
you will notice that over the past 20 years there has been a significant year on year drop for all causes and it could well be the case that the decline in paracetamol related suicides is simply following the downward trend in all suicide related deaths.0 -

You have to take them all for it to work.0 -
