Just tried, and message is ' Setup did not find any hard disc drives installed on your computer' I think this concludes my post, either the dog whipped it out when I was in the kitchen, or the hard drive is defo dead, better go and dig that hole now I think, thanks to you all !

Hmm mind you have just googled that error message, and have found another option to try, but not holding my breath!

well if it was an ordinary desktop I would say check the cables on the back of the HDD but no idea if you can do that with a laptop :(

Yeah, can you get in and get the hard drive out? (I'm assuming the warranty has expired) You could then bung it in another computer to confirm your suspicions. If its the HD, then buy another - if the HD is fine then.....you probably need a new laptop :(

 Oooo bit scarey the prospect of that! I have done alsorts to my desktop, but a laptop is a totally different thing, its so little and fiddly. Think hubby will have to take it to the laptop hospital ;)

No, I havent worked on laptops either. They are all different. Maybe the hard-drive will come out easy, maybe not. Worth a look though. You should then be able to bung the HD in the desktop to check it which it sounds like you are able to do! Good luck
