Health insurance for China?

Son going to work in Beijing, China soon. Has been told his employer will sort out health insurance but just wondering if this will be good enough (haven't any details yet) and whether he should sort it out himself. Thinking it might be quite expensive but just need to make sure he is properly covered. Any advice welcome.

Permanent health insurance would be extremely expensive - it is a bit different to travel insurance.
Overseas employers typically have a group policy which covers all of their employees.
I would wait until he gets there.0 -
Thanks. I am beginning to realise how expensive it is.
I think we had better trust that the company have it sorted and ask a few more questions.0 -
You could get a 'backpacker' policy from a company like Columbus for the first few months at a reasonable price: this would cover medical issues but little else, and might be a worthwile expense for peace of mind.
Once has has been there a few months he should know about the policy that the employer provides, and if it is inadequate he might consider returning at that point.0 -

Waht comoany is it, a multi national should be fine, whereas a small local employer may be totally inadequate.
I'm not sure many travel policies will cover a lot if he's working there, it's a different situation.0 -
It's TAL, an English Language teaching organisation. Think it's fairly big.
I think the added travel insurance is a good idea.0
