Can employer make me work the hours extra from when I was booked off sick?

Hi All
I recently had surgery on my ears. I am a nursery apprentice, who in view of the surgery (was booked off for two weeks) had to take annual leave in order for the time to be taken as according to my employer I wasn't entitled to SSP. Anyway, due to my operation I am finishing my apprenticeship a couple of weeks later then I was supposed to but I had a few days off last week in view of complications from the surgery but got a fit note from the doctors to back this up. Normally I am contracted 30 hours a week but I see this week my employer has put me down for 50. I asked her why this was and she said "oh its because you were off last week"
She has seen the fit note, but just curious, is she right in doing this? many thanks for any help

Without even thinking too much about it, I think that what she is doing (trying to do) is completely illegal.
Ask for it in writing, then maybe get more advice from folks who are a bit more knowledgeable than me.0 -
Why aren't you entitled to SSP?Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

Why aren't you entitled to SSP?
According to the owner its because I am an apprentice. (I know technically I am over a year into my apprenticeship as a result of my op but all the same I know if you're over a year into your apprenticeship which I technically am now then your supposed to be paid NMW if I remember rightly?

You're an apprentice - how old are you? Different rules apply for max hours/week if you are under 18.

The extra hours may be an alternative to cutting your pay for the hours off sick. Some people would prefer to make them up, but I do think you should have been asked. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

If your contract is for 30 hours and there's no provision to do enforced additional hours, then no, they can't do this.
You being off one week doesn't mean you should do more hours the next. It's possible, of course, that they thought that giving you more hours was a good thing so that you're not down on pay - but they should have asked you, not assumed. However, it could also be that they need more people working and you're the cheapest person, so they're using you being off work the previous week as an excuse.
Ultimately, whether or not you want to work those hours and whether or not you want to rock the boat on it will determine whether you say anything or not..!' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
Thanks everyone, that does help. I am 23 years old
24 end of the year. I was just curious really as also said employer has also when I have been off sick in the past made me work the time back again and still deducted it from my wages, essentially working for free which does suck as you can imagine on the wage I have been on as also have ongoing health problems to consider of which employer knows about "No one can change the past. The only thing we can do is strive to make up for our mistakes. Why must we make up for our mistakes, you ask? Because in so doing...we can find the way back to our path. If you have the records prepare a claim for the wages.0
