Ebay - Neutral Feedback after immediate refund.

I sold an item on Ebay a few weeks ago.
I tested the item and it was working prior to posting.
The buyer opened a case saying it was defective.
To avoid all the hassle I gave an immediate refund.
He's now left Neutral Feedback saying "Item broke - got immediate refund".
I'm now concerned that when any other buyers see this they'll just think that they have to open a case to get a full refund.
Could I get the Neutral feedback removed or is it valid?

If that is exactly what the feedback says then you won't get it removed. The only possible chance of removal would need buyer to mention a case being opened, and even that nowadays is sometimes difficult to argue with ebay despite their own published guidelines.

  • You could ask the buyer if he would change it but he isn't obliged to.

Is it possible to go back and change feedback?
  • Is it possible to go back and change feedback?

A seller can send a feedback revision request and the buyer can change the feedback. The only time it can't be sent is if the buyer has left a green (positive) mark. A neutral or negative can be revised. but the buyer isn't obliged to respond or do anything. As per soolin's post if the feedback the OP has is word for word "item broke - got immediate refund" it doesn't breach policy it can't be removed.

Personally I would drop the buyer a message and thank him for his understanding and explain the comment might attract buyers who aren't as understanding as him and would be be open to revising it.

Maybe I'm out of touch with these things, but that sounds like perfectly fair feedback. The buyer rightly expected a working item, they didn't get it, but did get their money back.

If a shop sold me a broken item, but honoured their legal obligations by giving me a refund I wouldn't feel that the overall experience was "positive", especially if it was something I needed urgently and then had to spend more time sourcing a replacement and waiting for it to arrive.

Is it fairly simple for a buyer to amend the neutral feedback they've left?

Might the buyer get annoyed at being asked to change feedback and change it to a negative?
  • You're over-thinking this. The feedback is accurate and also shows you as a decent, honest seller. Starting to agonise over whether or not someone might or might not think...just move on and forget it.

Very if the seller has sent the revision request.

From memory and as long as things haven't changed, you used to be only able to revise the feedback to the same state or better = neg to neutral/ neutral to neutral but change comment / neg to neg but change comment. You were not able to change it from neutral to neg.

I agree but the OP was asking for ways on getting it changed/removed.
  • A couple of people have missed the point of why he wants the feedback changed. He believes that stating he gives immediate refunds is a beckoning call for scammers. It's a bit like feedback being left "seller is out on Wednesdays and leaves his front door open."
