unregmp2.exe - corruptfile Nightmare

Options
I woke up this morning to my Laptop not happy.
I definitely shut down laptop last night so there can't have been any updates during the night which have caused any problems.
All was ok when last used laptop.

Now getting various corrupt file error messages

I've tried running chkdsk (via other sites , not an option in my programs) but keep asking to schedule which does not work on rebooting.

Currently running basic options on Laptop and having to sign in to whatever program I want to use.

No access to any Documents or Pictures etc.

When starting laptop (Windows 7), various messages

unregmp2.exe - corruptfile
The file or directory c:\users\admin is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the chkdsk utility

I would do a chkdsk, then search to see if a restore point has been created and roll it back, but on doing this you will loose all new and modified files from that restore point onwards.
  • Thanks for your reply

I've tried running chkdsk (via other sites as after searching it is not an option in my programs) but it keeps asking to schedule which does not work on rebooting.

All Restore points are when problems started so does not do anything,

    Any further suggestions appreciated.

open a command prompt as admin (right-click, run as admin), and try

    sfc /scannow

    and Enter
    ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

Chkdsk is present on your PC however it doesn't normally have an entry in your program list.
If the site is suggesting checking the disk by right clicking on it, going to properties, tools and then check for errorrs then this method doesn't seem to support the scheduling even though it says so.

    To invoke the program directly
Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories
Right click on 'Command Prompt' and select Run As Administrator
Click yes if User Account Control pops up
    Type in Chkdsk c: /R
answer Y followed by enter to the scheduling question.

    Now restart your PC.

On reboot windows will start loading and then chkdsk will kick in and do its thing
  • Thanks everyone

    Still no luck

I've opened the command prompt as admin (right-click, run as admin), and tried

    sfc /scannow

    and Enter

    After scan it says
    Verification 100% Complete
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\logs\CBS\CBS.Log for example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.Log

When finding this it opens Notepad but says Access Denied

Copy CBS.log to the desktop and try opening from there.

I can understand why you think this is true, but I also think you are wrong.

Usually MS and some software houses, as part of upgrading or installing software sets up a restore point first, and then seamlessly install the software. A Restore Point freezes the blocks on the disk so that if things mess up it can be rolled back to the previous working state.

I would take a punt on windows updates, also you may be low on disk space which has a tenancy to mess updates up?

You have a corrupt user profile and are therefore being logged in with a temp profile.
Follow the instructions here for your OS https://neosmart.net/wiki/corrupt-user-profile/

It's quite an easy fix but shout me if you get stuck
