SSE key meter top up not working

My partner just bought a £30 top up for our key meter. He put the key in the machine and it said 'token accepted' but it hasn't added any credit on to the meter. We had £32.12 and it's still the same.

What should we do?

I don't know how we can prove it hasn't worked since our balance was already higher than the top up value.

I don't know much about this type of meter as we moved here recently and never had a pre pay meter before.

  • Did you keep the receipt? Is there debt on the meter?
  • Yes, we still have the receipt and there is no debt on the meter.
  • Are you using the same key you found at the property ?.You need to register your account with the supplier and get a new key in your name.
Also check debt .Debt is not on screen "A ", that is the screen to show credit and debit on standing charges.
The debt and debt repayment screens are on "S " and " T ". Only available with the key inserted. The last occupier could be paying back as much as £16 a week

Don't worry as when you top up again it will prove whether the money went on the meter or not.

  • Thank you all. We went and got another £30 and it put £60 on.

This is the same key that came with the property. I will check for debt from previous tenant.
