what paint for around bottom of exterior walls/plinth

Hello

I am after advise for paint to use for exterior walls.

Currently exterior walls are painted in black around bottom of the house. I just had new air bricks fitted and now need to repaint all in black but I am not sure what kind of paint was/should be used.

I was doing some research online but it is still not clear whether I should use bitumen paint, water proof or just a regular masonry paint.

I just want to make sure I dont cause issues with damp/trapped moisture with my painting. As per attached photo, not painting is not an option as it has been already painted.

Many thanks for advice.

    Google "Paint for plinth".
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • I keep coming across same websites as before and I still am no wiser. I am thinking about using Sandtex masonry paint. Is it a good choice?

I think masonry paint will be fine.

I do not think you will be successful painting the air bricks. They are terracotta and would not be an ideal surface for paint. Plus it would be fiddly.

I have some touching in and patching to do on a home. I intend using a can of door stop paint from Toolstation because it is cheap - around £8 so a fraction the price of masonry paint at DIY sheds. it comes in red and black and should do the job. I have not used it before so this will be a trial job.

I painted my terracotta air bricks with Weathershield some time ago. Still seems to be adhering OK. They aren't a feature I wanted to highlight!
  • Not worried really about air bricks just about plinth. I was doing some reading and apparently wrong paint can cause damp. I know ideally bricks should not be painted at all but too late for that now. So I just want to make sure I dont cause further issues.
