I've had a letter from the council today addressed to the occupier giving me notice they want to carry out an inspection of my property under the housing act.
Anybody got any idea what these are for. Theres only myself at the address, no tenants or dependants?
Many thanks for any info.

Thx, so basically it could be for any reason and they don't have to say why?0

Have a look at the whole section
https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2004/34/part/7/crossheading/enforcement
However, do not make an enemy of the council: It helps if they are sympathetic to you!
When you 'phone the council to arrange a date/time & enquire what/why they are after, what did they tell you?
Any disputes with neighbours or freeholder or council?0 -
Nothing that I know of, I've only been here 8 months...........The letter was addressed to the occupier, however on the second page is the name of a previous owner of the house..........0

I'd 'phone council and explain (I take it that) you've bought 8 months ago, are not previous owner, and are they sure they wish to go ahead (whilst making it clear you are happy if they want to visit).
I'd confirm the conversation, in writing, afterwards: People have a tendency to remember not necessarily what was actually said.
Probably and old problem, perhaps complaint from old tenant?0
