Buildings- accidental damage cover

I don't currently have the above. i don't do much DIY myself so am unlikely to put a nail through a cable or similar. However I have just noticed that this part of the policy does cover accidental damage to underground drains, pipes, cables for which I am responsible.
I am wondering whether it is worth including it. i am just coming up for renewal so need to decide.

How many of you do include this? Thanks

    I don't but then I am a builder.

    It depends on two things.

Firstly what is the additional premium and secondly, what is the excess. If most jobs can be done for less than your excess, then its probably not worth it.

Are you likely to be digging any holes more than 600mm deep or putting any pilings where pipes & cables might run ?

If there is a chance you might have a tradesman in who is likely to be doing any digging, they should have their own liability insurance to cover any damage.

For the vast majority of people, cover of this type is just a waste of money. I do a fair bit of heavy duty DIY, and don't have accidental cover for the external drains, pipes, or cables.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –
