I think Dan may be setting his sights too high in thinking about a graduate training program

Don't let his sights drop. Don't let that happen at all. After my first job (which needed specialist skills from my MSc) I joined a graduate scheme that had a 2:1 minimum - but I'd worked hard, had experience and projects to show, so they jumped at hiring me.

Your grandson just needs to look up, start to train HIMSELF, because that's what every decent person in IT does. They're are self-learners. I'd been self-teaching myself IT from the age of 9 and now my son is doing the same.

People want graduate schemes because they are a 'career on a plate'. He's not going to get that so easily now - he's got to put on his big boy trousers and work.

Doing some Microsoft exams might be a good start actually. Focusing on the 'Microsoft stack' can definitely provide a career.

Thanks for your input. I am going to put all of the suggestions and have a chat with him after his holiday
His Mother is giving out about him going on holiday saying he is spending the money I gave him for 21st in April and Graduation. I don't have a problem with that as he has not had a holiday whilst he was at University.
Cheap flight with easyJet and Air B&B in Barcelona.
I am struggling between encouraging my Grandson and dealing with the backlash from my Daughter.
He will talk to me but whether he follows through on what we have discussed
Thanks to everyone I am so grateful . Sue
