Tap doesn't respond to stop !!!!

Hi all,

Looking for ideas. I need to replace a tap in my bathroom and it can only be isolated by turning the water off as it does not have its own valve on the pipe underneath. The trouble is that when I turn the stop !!!! off in the downstairs toilet, the water still runs in the bathroom whilst getting switched off everywhere else in the house! I only moved in a year or so ago so it's the first time i've fiddled with the water. There are no other stop cocks that i've found. Does anyone know where to look for this kind of thing?

Thanks
Steve

Is it filling from a tank in the attic? If so, there should(!) be a stop chicken up there. If not, you may have to drain the tank. Oh, and stick an in-line stop in the pipe while you do it, if you can.

I have read about people using bungs to block the outflow pipe from the cold water storage tank and sometimes even carrots!! Not tried it myself.

I have a gate valve in the airing cupboard that controls the flow of water to the bath/basin cold taps and the toilet cistern.
