vat charged when not clearly payable as extra cost

Options
wonder if anyone can help
I made a purchase online and it was not clear that the cost shown was net of vat
my basket cost was the figure I expected
the final screen added 20% taxes but I didn't notice
is there a requirement to state that costs are net of vat?
if so, and the company chooses to do nothing in response to my complaint, is there any agency which deals with such issues?
many thanks!

What is the company? They are required to list prices inclusive of VAT if they only sell to consumers but if they are a business to business seller then they don't have to.
  • If the final screen listed the price including VAT, and you then clicked to approve it, I don't think you can complain.

You should have checked before clicking the approval button.

What's the website? A lot of these sites have an option to display prices with or without VAT, It's usually pretty clear, lets have a look.
