Friends mail to our house.

A friend of my partner recently sold her house and to break the chain she is currently staying with parents until her new house sale goes through.

As part of the whole move she asked if she could get her mail redirected here. We said yes but only if it was Royal Mail re-direct as didn't want her or her boyfriend as showing up as registered at our address. Today I've received mail which is addressed to her from utilities / phone companies etc but with our address on it. Having used Royal Mail Redirect myself I know any redirected mail has a sticker over with the redirected address on. So to me she has changed her address with the utilities companies to our address.

My first question is, what effect if any will this have on my credit file? And secondly, are there any other implications?

It will have no impact on your credit file. Credit belongs to individuals, not to front doors.

Tell her not to use your address directly.

An implication is you tell your friend to fix it, why is the mail not being re directed to her parents ?

I have no idea why it's coming here and not her parents. Will mention it to her and ask her to amend.

Interesting to hear that addresses if shared with people with bad credit doesn't matter. I always thought it had an impact?

Many people do, but it's one of the urban myths of credit reporting.

It might have a bearing if you claim any type of benefits or single persons discount as HMRC/DWP might think she is actually staying with you. Also, if she has debts (now or in the future) you might get mail / people coming to your door.

Each redirected item will have a sticker or come in a plastic cover with multiple letters within (with the sticker on the outside)
