Dogs and Central heating

Options
Hi,

I know its not the winter yet, but though I would ask this to be prepared. Last year when I left my dog at home, I left the central heating on for him, but am wondering if I need to do this, he is a Pomeranian so very fury, but of course he is used to living in a warm home, so I worry if I don't leave the heating on he will get cold. And of course I can't ask him, so wonder what others do ?

  • I wouldn't leave the heating on. Pomeranian dogs have big coats so don't need heating.
  • It really depends on how cold your house gets with it off and how old the dog is. Being alone all day and cold would be miserable for any creature, but a decent thermostat at a fair minimum temperature say 15-16 and a good bed should be fine. We do this and in a modern house the heating is on infrequently during day, it’s boosted when one of comes home at lunch to be with dog.

My dog is three, and I live in a mid terrace house which helps keep the temperature up. He has an igloo bed with a good cushioned base, so even the bottom of the bed stays warm.

I think I probably don't need to leave the heating on as often as I do or as high as I do, I was leaving it on at 18.

I leave the heating on about 17, buts it's not for the dogs benefit, it's for mine when I get in. Thermostatically continued so it's not on unnecessarily.
However Gitdog is a heatseeking missile and would probably leave home if the temperature dropped much lower even with his fleecy blanket.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
