O/S Daily Friday 1 September 2017
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Light but cloudy here and wet underfoot after rain last night.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 & 2 are still in their pits, DS1 has a days' holiday as his car is going to the garage for a service and MOT.
Dinner last night was quiche, breaded chicken portions, potato bake and a side serving of extra veg for me. Tonight will be chicken and bacon kievs, chips and beans for the menfolk, I'll have something else, not sure what yet.
Yesterday I did manage to get the washing up to date, (although I think the basket now has another load in it), dried and ironed. Hoover ran around too. I also made a chocolate cake.
Today I'll be following DS1 to the garage, bringing him home, then going to do the food shopping. I'll just potter along and get done what I can.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone and thank you for the thread nmlc.
I've not posted very much this week, as I've had a lot on my mind. Work has been busy too.
I hope everyone is ok, and that everyone has a good dayI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning everyone.
A grey day ahead! I'll be in a meeting and then driving down the road to DM's. I'm lying in bed watching the swallows again :j they haven't gone yet. They're still gathering on the power line, two are clinging to my wall and there's a lot of fluttering around. I'm glad they're not gone yet though it can't be too long.
Speky - I meant to say how fabulous your afternoon tea sounds. There's no doubt that your mum and gran will be very happy.
Enough for now. I wish a very happy Friday to all.0 -
Morning everyone,
Thanks for the thread nmlc
Yesterday was a lovely warm sunny day after the cold wet day on Wednesday. It’s made me realise that autumn is nearly here. Today the forecast is for showers and from lunchtime onwards so not very nice weather. If it turns out ok this afternoon I’ll make the most of it and go for a walk.
I know that in the greater scheme of things this isn’t important but I went to the new hairdresser yesterday and she has done everything that I told her didn’t work with my hair, and it is shorter than it has ever been in my life. I came home and cried. I think I look awful. I worked out that it will take about 6 months until I can do anything with it and it starts to look ok. Just had a look in the mirror and it still looks as bad this morning
.
What hasn’t helped is that I’ve been really down for a few weeks now, and this was kind of the final straw.
Sorry for going on when I know that some of you have real problems.
I made a goulash for dinner yesterday and had that with some rice. I’m going to do sausage and mash with some steamed veg for dinner tonight. I got a lot of y/s veg yesterday so will steam some of that to go with it, and make some onion gravy.
I hope that things improve for those that are unwell, and have problems and worries at the moment.
Have a good day whatever you are doing.0 -
Good morning
Thanks for starting us off nmlc
Judi brilliant saving on switching your energy providers
Speky your afternoon tea sounds wonderful
Strange day yesterday. Went out in the morning, DH wanted a coffee, it was so hot and sunny, after lunch torrential rain, the road looked like a river, then brilliant sun shine. Did feel quite cool last night.
Will visit mother this morning.
Wish I had some thing interesting to say but nothing much happens in my world.
Hope you all have a good dayIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Morning :hello:
mr tru was walking Scampi last night, he was going round the corner when a man on a pushbike, wearing earphones, sped round and crashed into them. Scampi went nuts – I heard him from the house! - and snapped, he just caught the man's leg with a tooth but I don't think he broke the skin. It wasn't a bite, but I suppose legally it would count as one. Man stopped about 10 yards away and made a show of examining his leg (mr tru couldn't see anything wrong with it from where he was) and was yelling about the dog being out of control, he was told “the dog IS under control, he's being walked on the inside of the footpath and is on a lead and was fine til you crashed into us – you're the one out of control, riding your bike on the path while listening to music and speeding round a corner when you can't see round it, you effing stupid *bad word* “ Man shut up and rode off, still on the path with his headphones on and music playing.
I'm half expecting a knock on the door from the police or dog warden but I'm not too worried, they're good at understanding things like this, if other people's stories are anything to go by.
TBH I'm more peed off that he going to go back to being terrified of bikes.
I'm limping about like a right old limpy thing so I'm going to take it easy for a few days. I had a bit of a meltdown yesterday, lol – I'm sooooo sick of this, I can't do anything, that's it I'm doing nothing til the muscle relaxes a bit then I'm going to concentrate only on me – no dog walks (in case of pulling), lots of gentle exercise, no lifting anything.......... blah blah blah. There was more but I went on for quite a while and I'm sure you don't want to read it all
So I'll sit and do a bit of work, then get up for a wander, bit more work, stretching exercises, bit more work etc, etc. But for today, and I hope it's only for today because I get bored quickly, I'll be doing nothing except stretches every couple of hours.

Morning all
Very autumnal here but we are in for a good day I think, the sun is coming out ! Good job as I have unearthed two machine loads of washing one of which is on the go, will hang them both out today.
Driveway blokes turned up this morning dropped a cement mixer off and left one chap here, the one that has been left is very good at sweeping
he has swept the driveway beautifully and asked if he could 'borrow' some electric, he now seems a bit lost, I think he is waiting for the other two to come back !
Gers and Snoozer it is sensible to build a puppy's walks up, when Evie first came to us she didn't know what a walk was and would tire really easily (she will now walk for hours) this is especially important if you are walking them on a road as their tiny pads can become sore, the 'zoomies' they do at home are different as they are in control of these and can stop when ever they like, not lecturing
just things I have picked up over many years of having dogs xx
Got to nip to the shop today and have a hoover round and hang washing, it also sounds like the other two chuckle brothers have turned up so I had better make more coffee !
Tru I am so glad Sampi has you in his corner, most people would have given up with him, bless you xx
Have good days all xx
Hollyharvey I feel your pain my hair is shorter than its ever been due to a bad cut, I hate it which is why I don't go to the hairdressers often xx0 -
Just popping in to send hugs to HollyHarvey.
I am sure that your hair looks fine but I understand that you are not happy.
Can you go back to the hairdresser and demand a re trim?
If not, Autumn is here and it is the season of hats.
Hope that you feel happier soon.
Morning everyone else especially Judi and Dumpling, I read nowadays but rarely post.
Have a lovely day everyone.:)0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc, hugs to those in need.
I was awake and reading from 3 - 6 this morning so I'll be flagging later but I'm taking 4 of my dgd's shopping this morning, they are 12, 9, 6 and nearly 3. I must be mad but the youngest breaks her heart if she gets left behind.
It's CHS's birthday soon, he wants a tassimo coffee machine not sure where the help he thinks it's going to fit!
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
redruby, I know, we're not being stupid about it and we have a backpack for Ziggy when she tires and we went on much shorter walks than we usually have.
Holly Harvey, vent away, hair is important - I just hope the woman who does mine doesn't stop.
I went out at 11.00 to pick up DDiL from the station and take her home. DS had made her promise to ring me (he's still in Scotland) and I truly don't mind doing it. She's very guilty about it but has no need.0 -
Morning folks and it's a glorious morning here. Though I think rain is forecast for later this afternoon.
We got back from the caravan late afternoon yesterday and got all unpacked and the first washload in before the DGDs arrived. Only 2 of them as eldest was staying at her dads and then meeting her friends to go in town for bits and pieces for school next week. Middle one is abandoning us too mid morning as she is going on the Subeam's Summer Picnic to Shibden Hall and gardens.
We had a good few days at the van and the only rain was overnight Monday, but it left it much cooler next day. So we had a chilly afternoon at Ripon races! We fared as bad as ever, we are so good at picking losers! Anyway we redeemed ourselves on the very last race - a winner at last! We didn't quite redeem our losses but it cushioned them a bit!
Once the weekenders had gone home from the site we had a peaceful few days. I sleep so much better there, I don't know whether it's cos it's darker, quieter or I just leave all my worries at home. Got lots of reading done as usual and mucho birdwatching. No sign of the swallows gathering there GERS but now the weather is on the change I don't think they will be long. I always find it a sad sight and it depresses me thinking about winter ahead.
Once we have dropped middle DGD off for the picnic pick-up we are off food shopping with youngest in tow. She was a bit upset that the other two were going somewhere and she wasn't but the promise of a blue slush and a toastie in Sainsbury's cafe cheered her up!
TRU I am thinking of you. I am sure the cyclist won't have the gall to put in a complaint when it's obvious he was in the wrong. Grr some folk haven't the sense they were born with.
Have a good day all and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad or worried who want them. Take care folks xx
ps My twopennorth re flu jabs! Working for the NHS I was offered them every winter at work. The first left me with a stinking cold that went on for weeks. 20 years later I risked another and the same happened. So even though I have been eligible for years, in view of my age, to have one free I decline. Mr TA, however, has his every winter without fail with no after effects. With his health problems though he can't risk getting 'flu as well."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0
