Multiple credit checks on your name - What to do

I noticed my last credit report a magnitude of searches for credit application using a previous address I lived about 3 years ago. I am overwhelmed by the fact someone is trying to obtain fraudulent credit in my name. These have taken a toll on my credit score too!



What steps shall I take? I have a CIFAS warning on file saying not to accept any new credit applications, but not sure whenever this will protect me or not.

Advice greatly needed.

First of all don't worry about the credit score, it is a fictitious number that only you see, no lender can see it.

Have you contacted the police? If not you need to contact them, ideally the ones in the town where you used to live as this is a clear attempt at fraud. The CIFAS marker should be sufficient to protect you and all you can do with the entries is periodically write to the three CRAs and file a notice of correction to get the fraudulent checks removed, a crime reference number from the police will help in this.
