Insurance for items in container storage

Options
Hi

Does anyone have any ideas how we can get insurance for items that are in a storage container in our garden while we're having building work done? The house is unoccupied so we can't get normal contents insurance, the insurance company insuring the house during the work won't touch contents, although will insure the container itself and normal storage insurance only covers official storage companies. I'm now panicking that our bright idea for storage is a complete disaster - help please!

On the plus side - I guess the point about storage containers is that they provide a very high level of physical security in the first place.

In around 50% of burglaries, the burglar gets in through unlocked doors and windows. Beyond that, many burglars 'tools of the trade' are just a screwdriver and a pair of mole grips - to force doors, windows, locks.

Cutting a high security padlock off a storage container would require bolt croppers, hacksaw and/or angle grinder - which would mean you'd have been targeted by a very specialist burglar.

That type of burglar might be more interested in shipping containers full of new flat screen tvs or cigarettes, rather than second-hand household belongings.

You can also add additional locks to shipping containers like these: http://www.bulldogsecure.com/view/bulldog-ct440-container-lock/138

Obviously, none of that is a guarantee that your belongings won't get stolen, but they are probably a lot safer than they were in your house.
