Usually not, unless there are special circumstances. Very hard for a 16 yr old to rent by themselves as they are under the age they can be held responsible for a contract.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Most colleges will have bursaries for books, course fees etc, based on income, but unless they have some kind of accommodation themselves (boarding college for example) then I'd also doubt that renting accommodation would be an option at that age.DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0

How is the school expecting the girls to pay, was this not discussed before now?
Will you still be claiming tax credits and child benefit for her? Is this a termtime only arrangement or year round?0 -
Hi yes will still be claiming ctc and cb and this is a very last minute thing and its all year round except for August where they will all go home for the summer. She starts the school on Wednesday. So was just wondering if any help available.0

Do the benefits not cover the rent?
You need to establish where she will be classed as resident. If it's at the new address then you'll need to close your claims for her. She may then be entitled to some support in her own right. It's a one or the other situation, she can't claim as well as you.0 -
Was thinking more of a bursaries for her I belive she is to young to claim anything in her own right.0

Why is she leaving home at 16? There is an expectation that 16 year olds in education will be living at home unless the parents are paying for them to be at boarding school. I'm not sure why you think somebody else should be paying for something that is your responsibility (assuming said 16 year old is your daughter).0

Is the CTC etc not sufficient to pay her rent?
Is there a reason she cannot live at home, perhaps go to a more local sixth form?0 -
