Hsbc claiming i owe money when i have paid

Hello,

I am new here so hoping this is the right place to post!

Myself and my partner are gearing up to apply for a mortgage so are getting our finances straight and checking credit files ect,

my partner has 2 defaults on his, 1 from Halifax which has been resolved and is being removed. the other is from HSBC saying he owes 141 pounds.

having contacted them and them initially saying this is an admin error, they are now saying the money is owed. what is interesting is they are claiming that in may 2013he incurred a 3rd missed payment, in June a fourth and july a fifth, resulting in the account defaulting in August 2013.

I checked his statements and from February to September he was consistently paying money into this account, August and Septembers payments were returned, and HSBC confirmed they closed the account in August. he was not notified of this, nor given a reason. is it fair that they have marked this as a default even though he was consistently paying??!! as he said, had they have kept the account open from aug- October 2013 the debt would of been paid.

Just seems outrageous that as a consistent payer, he now has a mark on his credit file, because they closed the account?

HSBC are claiming this was passed on to a debt recovery company and they have no knowledge that he paid, however after contacting the debt recover company they confirmed they received the debt in march 2014 and in August 2014 HSBC withdrew it?

if anyone has any views on this or similar experience it would be much appreciated.

thanks

Escalate a complaint with them. You can only resolve this directly with them, and FOS after that.
  • thank you for your quick response.

we have logged a complaint with them and will take it to the ombudsman if necessary, my question was more related to if people had had a similar incident and whether they were successful in having the default removed.

albeit it is not much in value, and it was a simple case of just pay and it gets removed we would do so, but I know it doesn't work that way, and that default is the only thing that could effect our chance of getting a mortgage.

    thanks
